Summary
The primary goal of the Humanitarian Aid Volunteering grant is to support projects that facilitate the transition from immediate humanitarian response to long-term, sustainable, and inclusive development. Funded initiatives are expected to strengthen the capacity and resilience of vulnerable or disaster-affected communities, reinforce disaster preparedness and risk reduction, and create effective links between relief, rehabilitation, and development efforts. Ensuring the safety and security of volunteers is a key priority. Projects are encouraged to include complementary activities that enhance their quality and impact, and to actively involve local staff and volunteers from the communities where they are implemented.
Eligibility for this grant is focused on young people aged 18 to 35 who are interested in contributing to humanitarian aid operations through volunteering. Activities must take place in third countries where humanitarian aid is ongoing. Volunteering assignments are full-time, requiring between 30 and 38 hours per week, and are non-remunerated. All projects must adhere to the core humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, as well as the ‘do no harm’ principle.
The impact of these projects is intended to be significant for both the communities served and the volunteers themselves. By supporting local resilience and preparedness, the grant aims to foster sustainable improvements in living conditions and community capacity, while also providing young volunteers with meaningful opportunities to contribute to global humanitarian efforts.
