Summary

The European Advanced Digital Skills Competitions aim to engage young Europeans in advanced digital technologies by organizing a series of high-profile competitions. The primary goal is to foster creativity, project-based research, and training among students, while connecting them with leading research organizations and industry partners. Each competition will focus on a challenge that addresses a significant societal or industrial issue, developed collaboratively by consortia of prestigious European research institutes and industry stakeholders. The initiative will cover six digital areas, including Quantum, GenAI, Chips, Virtual Worlds, the Destination Earth Initiative, and an additional area selected by the consortium. The competitions are designed to attract broad student participation, enhance digital skills, and promote teamwork, applied research, and innovation.

Eligibility for participation centers on student teams within the European Union, who will compete in the six designated digital areas. The competitions will be closely coordinated with Sectoral digital skills academies, the Destination Earth Initiative, and relevant industrial communities to ensure alignment with current industry needs and research trends. Collaboration with the European League of Advanced Digital Skills Academies will support dissemination and public relations, while synergies with initiatives like the Digital Education Hackathon will be explored.

The anticipated impact includes increased innovation, measurable progress in digital skills, and heightened awareness of digital technologies among young Europeans. The competitions are expected to create sustainable pathways for ongoing skill development and foster a vibrant ecosystem connecting education, research, and industry.
