Summary
The EIC Accelerator 2026 aims to empower small and medium-sized enterprises, including start-ups, to scale up high-impact innovations that have the potential to create new markets or disrupt existing ones. The program is particularly focused on supporting deep tech innovations that are rooted in scientific discovery or technological breakthroughs. These innovations typically require significant, long-term investment before they can generate returns, making them less attractive to traditional investors. By providing a unique blend of grant and investment funding, along with Business Acceleration Services, the EIC Accelerator seeks to bridge this gap and accelerate the path to market for transformative technologies.
Eligibility for the EIC Accelerator is primarily targeted at companies, especially SMEs and start-ups, that have developed innovations with a technology component tested and validated in a laboratory or relevant environment, corresponding to at least Technology Readiness Level 5. The program supports the later stages of technology development and scale-up, and is designed for companies where EIC support can act as a catalyst to attract additional investment necessary for growth. Applicants can submit proposals through either the EIC Accelerator Open, which accepts proposals in any field, or the EIC Accelerator Challenges, which focus on predefined strategic technology areas.
The impact of the EIC Accelerator is significant, as it addresses the funding challenges faced by high-risk, high-potential innovations. By enabling these companies to access patient capital and business support, the program accelerates the commercialization and scaling of breakthrough technologies, fostering economic growth and technological leadership in Europe. The EIC Accelerator also plays a crucial role in crowding in private investment, thereby amplifying the overall impact and sustainability of supported innovations.
