Summary
The primary goal of this grant is to reinforce the competitiveness and innovation leadership of the European automotive sector by accelerating its digital transformation, particularly in the realm of connected and autonomous vehicles. The initiative aims to develop a strategic roadmap for digital technology advancements, encompassing software, hardware, AI models, and autonomous driving technologies. It seeks to establish high-level agreements on architectures and interfaces, nurture a dynamic ecosystem of contributors, and create operational digital platforms to support joint developments. The action will also define and implement processes and governance structures to ensure a clear pipeline for integrating building blocks from EU and national projects into commercial production, leveraging organizations such as ECLIPSE SDV and COVESA.
Eligibility for participation includes entities involved in research, innovation, and deployment projects related to automotive software, hardware, AI, and autonomous driving technologies. This encompasses EU-funded, nationally funded, and industry-driven initiatives, as well as organizations and working groups like Eclipse SDV, AUTOSAR, and COVESA. Key roles will be defined for project management, including ambassadors, chief operations officers, and chief architects to ensure alignment and coherence across projects.
The anticipated impact includes the consolidation and expansion of existing coordination mechanisms, alignment on common technology platforms, and the incubation of joint developments. The initiative will support the rollout of a strategic roadmap, facilitate rapid integration of outcomes into series production, and promote the sustainability of an open-source ecosystem, ultimately strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy in automotive innovation.
