Summary
The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) Hubs grant aims to strengthen the fight against disinformation across Europe by supporting a multidisciplinary community of researchers, fact-checkers, and media literacy practitioners. The primary goal is to maintain and further develop a robust platform that enables joint activities such as investigations, targeted research, and monitoring of disinformation trends. The grant also seeks to deepen language coverage and operational capacity for fact-checking, foster operational cooperation among stakeholders, and enhance the resilience of both media professionals and citizens. Key objectives include supporting the development and use of novel tools, such as Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI, to address emerging challenges like AI-generated disinformation and deepfakes, as well as monitoring and responding to disinformation threats during crises and elections.
Eligibility for this grant is focused on organizations and consortia that are part of or can contribute to the EDMO community, including researchers, fact-checkers, and media literacy practitioners. These entities must be capable of operating at a European level and collaborating across national and multinational hubs to deliver the outlined activities.
The anticipated impact of the grant includes consolidating EDMO’s role as a central actor in the European disinformation landscape, improving access to data for research, supporting the implementation of the 2022 Code of Practice on Disinformation, and increasing societal resilience through targeted media literacy and communication campaigns. The grant also aims to facilitate proactive outreach to the general public and vulnerable groups, ultimately contributing to a more informed and resilient European society.
